If you have no distance between the string and fret 1 that’ll be the cause. It could be a neck relief issue - easily checked but I’m guessing it’s the nut slot, like most others who’ve responded. You could try putting a scrap of paper under the string in the slot to raise it up a bit. One or two layers. If that doesn’t help, more down angle as suggested. Or hold the string down right in front of the slot with a flat screw driver. If that sounds better the nut is cut at the wrong angle crypto grill southfield
